Gluttony

 Gluttony

short film

SECOND ATTEMPT
FIRST ATTEMPT
some of the film students had came to us with makeup requests for short films they where working on, we had a read through the request sheets as a class and decided if we could help as they where needed for the following week and we had already had commitments to help the second years with there makeup for the stage production of 'The Witches', also we had only just started special effects makeup and this was what they would be wanting for their films. I had already missed out on helping the second years with the festival of thrift show due to other commitments so didn't want to have to turn down working on one of the films. as a class we naturally split into smaller groups so as a group we decided to say yes to working on the gluttony film. At this point all we knew about the film was what was on the request sheet which was that a chef had turned cannibal and had bitten two police officers. makeup request was bite wounds(fresh), fake blood, cuts, slashes. We started off by asking the director for a copy of the script so we could brake this down then as we had only just started working with special effects materials at this point we done some research on how to create bite marks, planned out what we wanted the characters to look like with face/body charts, then tried a few different techniques to recreate these until we found some that looked more realistic.

Once we where happy with our attempts we realised that our bite marks we had created looked different to each others yet these bites where meant to be from the same human, so we decided to send both bites to the director and let the director choose the bite he preferred. On the day I created my look on one of the actors arms using syn-wax, a bruise wheel, and fake blood. I used my spatula to help created the teeth marks into the wax (making sure to use the blunt side so not to harm the actor) i didn't want to leave the skin with just bite wounds and scratches so i use the bruise wheel to created irritated skin and bruising starting to appear, i also used my bruise wheel to create superficial scratches on the arm. I choose not to used the wax on the face and just used the bruise wheel to paint the effects onto the skin. I then went over all my work with the Ben Nye stage blood to emphasise the wounds being fresh. after looking back on my photos i do prefer the effect the wax creates appose to just using the bruise wheel, but I am glad i tried both techniques out.
