Into The Woods week 2

 

Into The Woods 

Week commencing 14.03.22

We started this week off by watching the Musical 'Into The Woods' Film just so we could get an idea on how the play will be and how the characters are portrayed in this. 

As a group we also sat down, planned out and decided in which weeks things would need to be done by in order to keep us all on track and make sure we were using our time wisely. 

In this week we had planned on researching into the play more, including watching the film, watching the theatre production of the show, breaking down the script, and then working on initial character ideas for moodboards.

We also delegated some tasks out that we could work on individually or in smaller groups, I volunteered to sort the budget for the show. This was a task that I would be able to start straight away as we would already know most of the makeup we would be needing to use then it would just be a case of adding things on if we needed anything extra or specific. 

I asked if one of my peers wanted to help out with this as we always work well as a team and we could split the research into the products down easily for the two of us. I made a list for all the makeup products we would need ordering while Libby made the list for skincare, hair products and and disposable items we would need.

We made a start on our product research but using the college computers was taking a lot of time and making it harder to find things as a lot of the sights we tried getting onto where blocked by the college, so we decided this would be something we would continue on at home. 

Two of our other MUA's had chosen to break the script down and give us all feedback as this is a big script and would take a while for us all to read individually, this also freed the rest of us up to start with initial ideas for characters.  

I made a list of characters we had in the play and things we would need to think of for these characters, such as... 

The Witch becomes beautiful on stage, how would we make this happen?

How would we do Rapunzel's hair as this is getting cut off in the script?

How long do we have between Cinderella being poor and being ready for the ball?

The actor playing the Wolf also plays a Prince how is this happening?

and so on...

These where some of the questions we needed to figure out or ask the director about.

We had another group meeting once the script had been broken down to discuss everything relevant to us about the characters. This lead to more questions needing to go to the director, as they found out that the actor playing both the Steward and Cinderella's father are on at the same time, and also the Witch and Cinderella's mother as on are on at the same time and are played by the same actor. We got all of our questions together and after dinner managed to put our questions to the director. 

Our big questions where about the multi role characters and how this was working. Easy fix Cinderellas mother and father are just voice overs not actually on stage. The Giant is a puppet and the actors voice so we dont need to plan for that makeup. He was happy with our ideas of maybe a mask/scarf/cloak for the Witch that will be removed when she needs to transform, and clip in hair extensions for Rapunzel.
