Into The Woods week 5

 Into The Woods

Week commencing 04.04.22

We had a group discussion on the morning about what the plan would be for today, We needed to make sure the moodboards and initial face charts where all finished so that we could meet with Tom (the director) on the afternoon and discuss our ideas with him and see if he was happy with them or had his own thoughts on any of the characters.

Little Red Riding Hood face chart
I sorted through the folder to see what we where missing then once we were all clear on what we had to do I got started with designing the face charts for the wolf. I made two different designs for the wolf one for the dystopian version, so more visually darker then as we are unsure how this character will turn into the prince in the little time frame we have I made the other face chart for a more simpler wolf more on facial hair than dark makeup. This would be the idea that can easily change over quickly. I really liked the idea of the dystopian wold so still thought I should show the design to the director. We where missing a couple members of our team today due to Covid, So I messaged them thought the teams app to see if they had managed to complete any of the work from home that was needed and if they would be able to send this over save us redoing work that had already been done. I then sorted the folder out and made a face chart for the little red riding hood going off one of my peers mood board creations.

On the afternoon we got to have our meeting with Tom, I presented both our sketch book work and folder work. I discussed the ideas we had come up with while also making sure I let the other group members discuss their own work, notes where taken on everything he had to say about the characters and ideas such as he loves all idea of the dystopian wolf and if there was any way this could be done in the short time period we had. I asked about head shots again and also when we would be able to sit in on rehearsal as this will all help us in our planning.

Once we had finished our meeting with Tom we had a group discussion with each other to discuss what had been said and where we go next, we delegated some extra work that needed to be done by the time we come back after Easter break. We also decided we needed to start our practical work, I've planned to start this tomorrow as this day was almost over.

Today we got to sit in on rehearsals as they where running though the first half of the play, this was really good for us as we get to see how each actor plays their characters and actually get to see what the actors look like for the first time which is a big bonus I took notes of everything that could be a factor for us to think about such as...

timings between actors changing characters, hair types and lengths to help with hair styling ideas, males with facial hair etc..

Once rehearsals had finished I presented our ideas to the actors going through `each one and getting feedback and answering any questions they had for us such as one of the actors where just ensemble and asked if we had a makeup design for her, this was one we weren't aware of but told her of course we would design a makeup look for her. The actor who plays Jacks mother asked if she had a makeup design as she didn't have a face chart, this was because she was meant to be playing the granny also so we have a old age face chart for the granny instead, she informed us that she was no longer double cast and would only be playing the mother. This we didn't plan for but makes it a lot easier for us to plan around. We also got to meet the second director this time around and got his view point on a couple of questions we had. We had previously spoken with Tom the other director and he had said the mysterious women was just one makeup look but Tom wanted this to be two different looks. This now created an additional problem to solve as this actor changed characters multiple times throughout the show. Once we had finished with the actors we went back and shared out thoughts as a group as we now had extra things to think about that we didn't know before. some of the main things we need to figure out are...

The Granny and Jack's Mother are no longer one person so they need redesigning.

rehearsal

The Mysterious Women and Narrator need two looks easy to change between as they are played by one person on and off through out the play.

How are we going to change the wolf into a prince in just the 4 minutes we had before hes back on stage?

How are we going to make the mask for the Witch as she changes over while still on stage?

Some of the other characters that have a change over have at least 15 minutes to do so, so they shouldn't be a problem.

Cinderella's Stepmother Mood-board

On the afternoon I handed in the makeup budget so this could get approved and ordered over Easter ready for us coming back. We decided to do practical work this afternoon and practice some of the looks we had already planned out that we knew didn't need to change. I practised the look I had designed for Cinderella's Stepmother which I think would be a really good fit for the character.

Bonus side to doing practical this afternoon we had a photographer in taking photos of us working of our work so I will get to see what my work looks like on a professionals camera.!
