Into the Woods week 9

Into the Woods

week commencing  02.05.22

I felt like this week we needed to get our sketch book work up to date as we dont have that long left at all. Next week is show week! I just felt like we had so much to do. We hadn't started adding designs into our production sketch book, we still had face charts that need changing, the Witches mask needed finishing etc. I just felt like things were starting to pile up and I really like to be prepared. I knew that I personally didn't need to practice the makeup looks as I felt comfortable with what we had now. So I spoke to the group on the morning and made sure everyone was in agreement that we need to knuckle down and get this work finished, unless they had something they felt they still needed to be practicing.

I found out a couple of our group had also taken on creating the cow for the show 🐮 which was really good to see how they planned on creating this out of a brush, coat hangers, a milk carton and a bed sheet 🙈.

my design for the Stepmother
Actor playing Stepmother

I decided to do the design for the stepmother into our sketch book, so I draw the actor face into our sketch book so that I could create the makeup look I had planned for her onto her actual face so we get to see what the look should look like once applied to the actor directly. Doing these final designs makes a massive difference when planning the makeup to see the look on the actors actual face as we get a better idea of if the make is suited to that actor. for example if you have designed a massive eye look on someone with really small close set eyes this look wouldn't look as good as if you had an actor that have a bigger lid space and higher brows.

How my work turned out in the book

I also remember I hadn't done the face charts for Cinderella after I recreated her looks so I sat and got them finished off and added the extra gems that I wanted on the look. I decided to take them right up and over her eyebrows just to make them a bit different.

I also did both designs for Cinderella and also her prince in the sketch book.

I also found out about my Wolf mask, as I weren't in when the rest of the group managed to see Tom (the director) I hadn't found out whether or not he had decided he wanted to use it or not. Turns out he thought it was great and maybe use it more as a hat type, so sitting more on his head than over the actors face. I asked if he had wanted anything changing on the mask as I had left it the way I had in case anyone else had ideas but he was happy to keep it how it was.

I made a page on the process of making the mask and added it into the sketch book.

I felt like we actually managed to get a lot done this week as a team considering at the beginning of the week I felt like we had all sorts creeping up. I feel a lot more prepared for the following week and feel totally confident going into show week!
