Into the Woods week 7

Into the Woods

 weeks commencing 18.04.22

Last week into the holidays before due back at college, I done some background research into were the 'Into the Woods' originated from and also into The ARC Theatre where the show will be on at so we can have an understand of how big the stage is and how strong the makeup will need to be so that you will still get the full effect from the audience. I've found that the ARC offers two stages for theatre shows one with a maximum capacity of 246 and a larger one holding 550.

The Point

Main Theatre

I cant be to sure which stage will be used for the performance yet until I mange to speak with one of the Directors, But after looking into the rooms a bit more and checking out the data sheet for the rooms I'm fairly confident that it will be the Main Theatre were the show will be held. This room offers more in choice of lighting, had multiple dressing rooms to use and a lot of other things that I don't know about 🙈.
I done some research on theatre lighting to understand more how the lighting can effect the makeup on stage. to do this I used a couple of different books one being the The stage lighting handbook. & also The makeup artist handbook.

“Be careful what you wish for” seems to be the ongoing theme in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Brothers Grimm inspired musical, Into the Woods. The story follows The Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to go the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give some milk. When the Baker and his wife are visited by the neighborhood witch, who reveals to them that she placed a curse on their family, the two set off on a journey into the woods to reverse the curse. Also in the woods, we meet Little Red, who is trying to visit her grandmother, the Wolf who loves tasty little girls, the Witch’s daughter Rapunzel, and the Princes chasing after their loves. By the end of Act I, everyone has gotten their wish and will seemingly live happily ever after. But in Act II, when Jack’s beanstalk brings them a visit from an angry Giant, we see how the consequences of their actions haunt them in disastrous ways. The community must come together to save each other and their kingdom, but sacrifices must be made.

Directors Initial Ideas

Also while we had Easter off college I made a couple of extra pages for our production sketch book. One was for the front of the sketch book explaining what 'Into the Woods' is all about and what our directors vision of the performance was. I think this is a vital page for the book otherwise you wouldn't understand where all our ideas for the characters had came from. The second page I made up was for hairstyle ideas, as we have to do both hair and makeup for the performance I looked for styles that would also suit the makeup designs. I am already fairly confident with hair but am aware some members of out team aren't as confident. So I made sure I had a variety of styles in the moodboard so that we would all be able to take part in the hair as well.
